What is happening with Flintshire council services over Christmas period?

Some of Flintshire council services will run as normal during the festive period, but there are areas that will be affected or unavailable.

From bin collections to office opening times, here is a round up of information and the services affected.

Waste and Recycling Collections:

As the Council does not operate waste and recycling collections on a Sunday, there are no scheduled collections on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

There will be no collections on Monday 26 December (Boxing Day).

Residents due a collection on Monday 26 December will receive a food waste collection on Tuesday 27 December, and a black bin collection on Wednesday 28 December.

Household Waste Recycling Centres:

All household waste recycling centres will be open throughout the festive period except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
• Christmas Eve – 24 December – 9am – 4:30pm
• Christmas Day – 25 December – Closed
• Boxing Day – 26 December – Closed
• 27 December – 9am – 5pm
• 28 December – 9am – 5pm
• 29 December – 9am – 5pm
• 30 December – 9am – 5pm
• New Year’s Eve – 31 December – 9am – 4:30pm
• New Year’s Day – 1 January – Closed
Last admittance to site is 15 minutes before the closing time.
Normal opening hours will resume from Monday 2 January.


Free School Meals

Payment in lieu of Free School Meals (eFSM) for the Christmas Holidays will be made in the week commencing 19 December 2022. Payment of £39.00 per eligible child should reach bank accounts by Friday 23 December 2022 at the latest. Payment will be automatic for those parents for whom the Council holds bank details.

Housing Benefit

There will be an earlier Christmas payment run for Housing Benefit. The payment should reach accounts by close of play on Friday 23 December 2022. The payment will cover payments up to 1 January 2023.
