Vandalism closes ticket office at Shotton Railway Station

The ticket office at Shotton Railway Station has been forced to close after being vandalised in the early hours of Monday morning.
Photos posted on social media by Shotton West Town Councillor Dean Stenner show significant damage, including a smashed door and a broken ticket office window.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Transport for Wales (TfW) confirmed:
“The booking office and waiting area at Shotton station were vandalised in the early hours of Monday morning at approximately 2:40am.”
“Our alarm system was activated and officers from North Wales Police arrived shortly afterwards.”
TfW described the incident as “very disappointing” and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
The booking office will remain closed while repairs are carried out, with customers advised to purchase tickets onboard or via the TfW app.
Councillor Stenner’s social media post sparked frustration among local residents, with many condemning the damage.
One commenter called it “absolutely shocking and unacceptable”, while another questioned whether CCTV would help identify those responsible.
Others expressed concern over rising vandalism, with one resident stating:
“Honestly… Society is doomed… so sad.”
TfW and North Wales Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
