Queensferry Roundabout Improvement works second ‘drop in session’ scheduled
Improvement works to Queensferry roundabout and the Asda junction set to start in February.
A second drop in session will take place on Thursday 28 January at the Queensferry War Memorial Institute between 1.00pm and 6.30pm, where plans will be available for viewing.
Council officers will be available to answer any question or concerns that members of the public or local businesses may have about the work.
Work on the scheme will take place from February 2016 through to April 2016 and will consist of:
. Widening of slip roads from the A494 to the Queensferry roundabout
. Widening of the Queensferry roundabout to create extra running lanes
. Remodelling of the junction of the B5129 and the B5441 at Asda.
. Signalisation of all the approaches to the Queensferry roundabout
. Upgrading and linking all existing and new traffic signals.
Access to businesses and properties in the vicinity of the works will be maintained throughout the period of the works.
Flintshire County Council submitted a funding bid in March to the Welsh Government through the Local Transport Fund, for the proposed scheme.
Road users who travel via the Queensferry roundabout and Asda junction currently experience lengthy delays during peak periods.
Future development in the Deeside area, such as the Northern Gateway Development, will further increase traffic volumes on a critical junction, putting additional strain on the network and resulting in inevitable delays for road users.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Flintshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment said:
“This scheme was identified as a priority for the Council in the recently submitted North Wales Local Transport Plan and I am pleased that Welsh Government have supported the bid and recognise that improving this key junction is critical in providing resilience to the highway network on one of the key Gateways into North Wales and one that will support the projected economic growth in this area.”
