Icy conditions could cause tricky driving conditions in Flintshire on Thursday night through to Friday morning the Met Office has warned.

A yellow alert for ice has been issued by the national weather service from 5pm Thursday through to 10am on Friday.

According to the latest weather update, wintry showers will gradually die out through Thursday night and with skies clearing, surfaces are expected to fall below freezing leading to ice developing on untreated surfaces.

The yellow warning is in place for all of Wales and Northern England.

This means that there is potential for some challenging travelling conditions.

Residents are advised to take extra care when travelling on Thursday night and Friday morning, as there will probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Cyclists are particularly at risk during winter weather and are encouraged to take extra precautions to ensure their safety.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said; “Cold air is continuing to push across the UK from the north and many areas have seen some snow, wintry conditions, and overnight frosts.”

“National Severe Weather Warnings have been issued across parts of western England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland with more warnings likely to be issued over the coming days.”

The cold spell will come to an end later this week and through the weekend across western areas, where it will turn milder and windier with some rain at times.

However, the cold air is likely to hang on for longer across eastern and south-eastern parts of the UK with sharp overnight frosts.
