Deeside water main burst causes traffic disruption on A494

Motorists are facing delays on the A494 near Ewloe and St David’s Interchange after a burst water main caused partial road blockages and congestion in the area.

Traffic Wales reported: “There’s congestion in the area due to a burst water main on the adjoining county road network. Please allow additional time for your journey.” The latest updates indicate queueing traffic on the northbound (eastbound) A494 Aston Hill, stretching from the B5125 Holywell Road (Buckley turn-off) to Aston Road (Higher Shotton turn-off). Delays have also been reported on the opposite side due to onlookers.

Residents reported seeing a large amount of water cascading down the hill earlier this morning, flowing towards the A494.

The burst water main, which was detected overnight, has also affected water supplies in Ewloe, Queensferry, Shotton, Mancot, and Hawarden.

Welsh Water said: “We’re aware of a burst on our network which is affecting the water supply to this area. Until the pipe is fixed, you may experience low pressure or no water. We expect all supplies to be fully restored later this afternoon. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Welsh Water teams are currently working on repairs, which involve coordinating with third parties, road closures, and specialist equipment.
