Long delays are continuing this afternoon on the M56 near junction 14 after an earlier road traffic collision involving a camper van.

This incident happened around 12:45pm today between junction 14 and 15, a notorious M56 accident spot.

The vehicle is believed to have over turned in the collision trapping an elderly male inside.

Three fire engines from Runcorn and Ellesmere Port were sent to the scene.

Firefighters stabilised the vehicle removing the man safely, he was checked over by paramedics and didn’t suffer any injuries.

Lanes two and three were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Westbound traffic, heading out of Wales has been subject to long delays, Highways England say normal conditions will return at 5pm, while Eastbound, heading into Wales disruption is expected to last into late afternoon.
