Flintshire homebuilder supports Deeside mental health project

A men’s mental health initiative in Deeside has received a funding boost from Flintshire homebuilder Anwyl Homes.
The Art and Soul Tribe community interest company (CIC) successfully applied for a £1,000 donation through the builder’s “Love from Anwyl” fund to support its Men’s Space project.
The Men’s Space programme offers a unique blend of nature-based activities, fitness, crafts, and games like pool and chess to help men improve their mental health.
The sessions provide a relaxed environment where participants can connect, share their experiences, and learn stress-reduction techniques while enjoying time outdoors.
Jessica Sparks, director at Art and Soul Tribe CIC, explained the project’s approach: “Men’s Space is a safe, non-judgemental environment for men to discuss challenges, build camaraderie, and learn stress-reduction techniques, all while enjoying the restorative power of the outdoors.”
She added that mental health is often a difficult subject for men to address, as many feel a stigma surrounding it. Traditional therapy settings may not appeal to everyone, which is why the group takes a different approach, offering outdoor activities and a supportive community for those identifying as male.
One participant in the project shared their experience, saying: “With hindsight, I can see how vital the help I’ve had has been. I wouldn’t have progressed as far without Art and Soul Tribe and all the time and effort they’ve put into it.”
Another attendee said the sessions helped him overcome social anxiety: “I struggle being around people and am very anxious, but during these sessions, I’ve even talked to new people. I leave feeling accomplished and calm, something I struggle to find in everyday life.”
The Men’s Space initiative collaborates with local organisations, including The Sandpit, Man-to-Man, and Wilderness Tribe CIC, all of which focus on male mental health and nature-based healing. Together, they offer mental health support, advocacy, and signposting to additional services for those in need.
Graeme Gibb, sales director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, expressed pride in supporting the project: “Our Love from Anwyl funds are there to support organisations like Art and Soul Tribe, who do vital work in our communities. Mental health is a subject many men find difficult to discuss, but groups like this provide an environment where they feel comfortable to talk and socialise. We’re pleased our donation has been able to fund several Men’s Space sessions.”
Anwyl Homes says it is committed to supporting mental health within its workforce.
Around 30 of its employees are trained in mental health first aid, and staff have access to a 24/7 confidential support line.
Earlier this year, Anwyl welcomed the Lighthouse Club Charity as part of its “Make it Visible” tour, promoting mental health awareness on its building sites.
