Connah’s Quay: Police football team to raise funds for families affected by gravestone vandalism

Wrexham Police FC is organising a charity football match to support families impacted by recent gravestone vandalism at Connah’s Quay Cemetery.
The match, scheduled for Sunday, 6 April 2025, will see the police officers take on the Talking Toffees at Ysgol Clywedog.
The fundraiser aims to assist families struggling with the costs of repairing their loved ones’ headstones, with all proceeds distributed through a partnership with Flintshire Council’s Bereavement Services.
A statement from Wrexham Police FC said: “We understand the distress this incident has caused, as well as the concerns many have about how they will be able to afford the necessary repairs.
“We are asking for online donations to help these families during this difficult time. All proceeds will be distributed fairly through a partnership with Flintshire Council’s Bereavement Services to ensure the funds reach those in need.”
Police have confirmed the arrest of an individual in connection with damage to gravestones and vehicles.
North Flintshire Police has urged anyone affected to report any unrecorded damage.
Inspector Wesley Williams thanked the public for their support, stating: “We would like to thank the public for their continued support. Due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, we will not be making any further comment at this time. We ask for the public’s understanding and cooperation as we continue to investigate this matter.”
A police spokesperson added: “If you are the owner of a vehicle or a gravestone that was damaged over the weekend and have yet to report it, please contact 101 and quote reference number 25000125753.”
The charity match organisers are encouraging online donations to help affected families. Contributions can be made via the GoFundMe page, click here.
