Mark Tami MP has formally objected to the proposed incinerator on Deeside Industrial Park.

In his response to the current consultation he stated that the plans should have been halted when it became clear that Deeside was the only option available for this North Wales wide incinerator.

The incinerator would burn waste from participating councils across North Wales and will also burn waste from elsewhere.

The Alyn & Deeside MP said,

‘This is an old and outdated technology and we should be looking to recycle more rather than dispose of it by this means. It will also cause significant congestion on our road system as the waste will be brought from all over North Wales by vehicle.’

‘It has been an unfair process and stitch up for our area and when Flintshire is considering the proposal to merge with Wrexham it is completely the wrong time to even consider it. At the very least the project should be put on hold until these issues have been resolved.

‘I am aware that the previous administration has put Flintshire in a difficult legal situation but this is not a reason to go ahead with an environmentally damaging incinerator.’

The Flintshire MP also raised concerns about the necessary regulatory and safety regime that will be in place if the privately run incinerator was to get the go ahead.

He is urging local residents and concerned individuals to submit their views to the consultation before the 23rd October.
