Visitors will be able to stroll across six different South east Asian Island habitats via a series of specially crafted bridges, there will also be a 15 minute jungle river cruise to giving different views of the plants, birds, insects and animals which inhabit that unique and fragile region of the world.

There will be encounters with Sumatran tigers, orangutans, macaques and Warty pigs as well as new species, such as the magnificent Sunda Gharial crocodile.

The development will be accessed from the existing Tsavo area of the zoo and will add the equivalent of around 7 full-size football pitches in area to the zoo footprint.

The zoo’s development director, Simon Mann, said:

“Islands is all about immersion – transporting visitors thousands of miles away to experience the splendour of the animals, plants and cultural aspects of these far-flung places.
