Chester: Crews remain on site after overnight fire at Dunkirk Lane

Firefighters were called to a large fire involving a pile of scrap metal at a premises on Dunkirk Lane, Chester, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched crews from Powey Lane, Ellesmere Port, and Chester, along with an aerial ladder platform from Chester.

Relief crews from Penketh and Malpas later attended to support operations.

Firefighters initially used two water jets to contain the blaze while the aerial platform tackled the fire from above.

By 3.50am, crews were working with on-site staff to remove debris and fully extinguish the flames.

As of 6.30am, firefighters remained at the scene, damping down hot spots.

By 9.00am, the aerial platform was no longer required, but crews from Penketh and Malpas continued monitoring the site for any remaining heat.

Firefighters are expected to remain on-site for some time to ensure the fire does not reignite.
