Flintshire County Council, in partnership with Welsh Government, will once again offer 40% business rates relief to local retail, leisure, and hospitality businesses starting from April 2025.

The relief is capped at £110,000 per business across Wales, giving much-needed support to hundreds of businesses for the 2025/26 financial year.

This scheme is in addition to the Small Business Rates Relief, meaning eligible businesses can benefit from multiple forms of assistance.

What You Need to Know

  • Who qualifies? Around 800 businesses in Flintshire are expected to be eligible for relief as part of a £3 million funding package from the Welsh Government.
  • How to apply: All retail, leisure, and hospitality businesses—including those currently receiving relief—must submit a new online application to benefit from the 2025/26 scheme.
  • Where to apply: Visit www.flintshire.gov.uk/rlh to fill out the application form.
  • When does it start? The relief applies from April 2025 and will cover the next 12 months.

Councillor Linda Thomas, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, expressed her enthusiasm for the continuation of this initiative:

“I am extremely pleased that Welsh Government is continuing to support our local retail, leisure, and hospitality businesses.”

“Our town centres play a vital role in supporting communities, and this package will assist businesses in this sector for another 12 months.”

This relief comes at a crucial time as businesses continue to recover and adapt in a changing economy.

Town centres across Flintshire rely on thriving independent shops, restaurants, and leisure venues, and the support will help ensure their continued contribution to local communities.
