Airbus UK Broughton FC’s Under-19 Development side exited the FAW Welsh Youth Cup in the 1st Round.

They made the short journey to The Rock to play their counterparts from Wrexham-based Cefn Druids – who progressed courtesy of a 2-0 win.

The game was typical of a ‘local derby’ in a one-off cup game, a physical encounter with both teams determined to win.

The young Wingmakers enjoyed a great deal of possession but went into the break 1-0 down after a well-worked goal for the Druids’ Alex Williams.

In the second-half the Wingmakers increased the pressure but were thwarted from creating anything in the final third, thanks to a well-organised Druids defence.

As the game reached the final few minutes, the Wingmakers threw everything at the Druids in a series of set-pieces.

When the Druids regained possession from the last corner breaking down, Jack Edwards carried the ball from inside his own half to the edge of the Airbus area.

He evaded all challenges on his way to finish a superb deciding goal at 2-0. It was a classic counter-attacking move and was virtually the last kick of the game.

Overall the Cefn Druids youngsters deserved their victory, while the Wingmakers will be disappointed – but will have learned lessons from the defeat.
