Road closures and park and ride announced ahead of Kings of Leon gigs

Details of road closures and a park and ride have been announced ahead of this weekend’s two Kings of Leon concerts. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​ in Wrexham.

The multi-BRIT and Grammy award winning band will take to the stage at The Racecourse on May 27 and 28. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Tens of thousands of people are set to attend both open air gigs – which are the first to have taken place at the world’s oldest international football stadium in several years. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Organisers have said those with tickets will get email communication with details on the event and associated plans, however Wrexham Council have released the below, as big events have impact on the wider community. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Park and Ride ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Due to the volume of people expected to visit the city over the 48 hours a park and ride service has been announced by Wrexham Council. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

It will run both days between 1pm and midnight from the Ruthin Road Housing Office and Ysgol Clywedog. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

The Park and Ride bus will pick up at the car parks, proceed along the A525 Ruthin Road, Mold Road and drop off on Mold Road in the closed section. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Pick-ups from the venue will be from outside the Macron Stand on Mold Road. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Road Closures ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

• On both days there will be a full closure of Crispin Lane between 1:00pm and 11:59pm
• One way of Mold Road between 1:00pm and 9:45pm
• Full Closure of Mold Road between 9:45pm and 11:59pm

Pre Event ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Mold Road will be One Way only – travel out of City toward B&Q roundabout – between 13.00 and 21.45, with all inbound traffic (including residents, Park and Ride and coaches to the event) using alternative routes, either directed or diverted. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

This will aim to reduce any confusion at B&Q Roundabout and improve traffic flows. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Park & Ride and any coaches to the event will be directed through town, either via Ruthin Road and be allowed to drop off on the inbound side of Mold Road, then re-join the outbound carriageway. This will be managed by TM Operatives ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Residents will also have to access the roads apposite the stadium via the Town Centre. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Crispin Lane will be closed with resident access from Stansty Road only. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Post Event ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

There will be a full closure of Mold Road and Regent Street from 9:45pm to 11:59pm whilst the stadium is emptying, during which time access for residents will be controlled from both ends by Amberon TMO’s. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

This will affect the below roads: ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

• Grosvenor Road, Bradley Road, Regent Street, Stansty Road (under bridge)
• All traffic from Wrexham Glyndwr University will exit on to Plas Coch Roundabout
• All traffic left from Plas Coch School into Stansty Chain Road
• Crispin Lane will be closed at the access to the back of the stadium.

Traffic Management ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

• The approaches to B&Q Roundabout will be reduced to two lanes from Plas Coch Road to prevent a left turn towards town centre
• Central Road will be coned down to one lane, to direct traffic into Regent Street, towards town for the full closure
• A section of the ‘closed’ carriageway on Mold Road will be coned off for Bus/Coach/ drop off. This will be managed by Traffic Management Operatives
• Traffic at J4 and A525 near the Park & Ride will be monitored and action will be taken if required.

Kings of Leon’s eighth album, When You See Yourself was released in March 2021, and became their sixth album in a row to debut at number one in the UK.
