Head of Deeside sixth-form centre completes mammoth 32km overnight charity swim
The head of Deeside’s new sixth-form centre completed the challenge of a lifetime overnight as he took on a gruelling 32-kilometer swim for charity.
Alex Thomas began the swim at 5pm on Sunday afternoon, in Connah’s Quay Swimming Pool.
The swim which is raising money for Wales Air Ambulance is the equivalent distance of the British Channel, 32km, or 1300 lengths of Cambrian Aquatics 25 metre pool.
Alex had expected the mammoth swim to take around 15 hours, however, in an update on Twitter this morning he said he’s smashed the estimated time by 3.5 hours finishing in a stunning 11 hours and 36 minutes.
Before the swim Alex said;
“I am planning to swim the equivalent distance of the British channel in one go, this is 32km, some 1300 lengths and believe it will take me roughly 15 hours.
This is the biggest challenge I have ever taken as a few months back I could hardly swim a full length without stopping. Special praise for Cambrian Aquatics for allowing me to train in the pool for this endurance swim.”
Alex set out to raise £500 for Wales Air Ambulance Charitable Trust so far he has reached over £650 – You can donate here justgiving.com/fundraising/Alex-Thomas
