Fresh Yellow Warning issued for snow and ice across Flintshire

The Met Office has issued a Yellow warning for snow and ice across Flintshire, in effect from midnight to midday on Monday, 6 January.
Following snowfall over the weekend, the new warning highlights continued disruption, with icy stretches and further snow expected to create hazardous conditions, particularly on untreated roads and pavements.
The Met Office advises that icy patches could develop widely overnight, especially in areas that experienced snowfall earlier today.
A further few centimetres of snow are likely in higher regions such as the Pennines and North York Moors, with icy conditions forecast across Wales and parts of the Midlands.
Key risks include:
- Longer travel times on roads, buses, and trains.
- Slips and falls on icy surfaces.
- Hazardous conditions on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.
The public is urged to plan their journeys carefully and take precautions to stay safe.

Disruption to Roads and Services
Snow and ice have already caused some disruption across Flintshire today, Sunday, 5 January, with an Amber warning in place until midday.
Early morning travel was particularly difficult on major routes such as the A494 and A55, where gritters and snowploughs worked to keep roads passable.
By 10am, conditions on key routes had improved, but side roads and untreated areas remain dangerous.
Police had earlier warned drivers to avoid the A494 at Aston Hill due to hazardous conditions.
Flintshire Council has confirmed that gritting teams are being deployed across the county ahead of the incoming Yellow warning.
However, residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel and to take extra care when venturing out.
Council Service Updates
- Household Recycling Centres remain closed today.
- Waste and recycling collections scheduled for Sunday, 5 January, have been rescheduled:
- Black bins will be collected on Monday, 6 January.
- Recycling and food waste collections will now take place on Saturday, 11 January.
Met Office Advice
The Met Office has issued guidance to help residents stay safe during the cold snap:
- If driving: Plan your route, allow extra time, and carry essentials such as warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, and an ice scraper.
- On foot or cycling: Stick to main roads and pavements, which are more likely to have been treated.
- Wear suitable footwear to reduce the risk of slipping.
Residents are also encouraged to prepare for quickly changing conditions and monitor updates on weather and travel.
Looking Ahead
While snow is expected to become more sporadic by late Monday morning, icy stretches are likely to persist, keeping conditions challenging for commuters and pedestrians.
Flintshire Council is working to ensure priority roads are treated and safe for use, but untreated areas may remain treacherous.
