Flint man jailed after assaulting police officer and members of the public

A man from Flint has been sentenced to 18 weeks in prison following a violent incident in which he assaulted a police officer and two members of the public.
Maurice Taylor, 51, of Church Street, Flint, appeared before Wrexham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 7, where he faced multiple charges, including resisting and assaulting an officer, threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear, criminal damage, and assault.
The altercation took place over the weekend after Taylor made threats to a bus driver who refused him entry onto the bus.
The police were called to the scene, and upon arrival, Taylor was found swearing and acting aggressively.
He was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, but the situation escalated when Taylor became violent during his arrest.
As the officer attempted to restrain him, Taylor struck her in the face, dragged her to the ground, and ripped her uniform.
He further spat in her face during the struggle. Two members of the public stepped in to assist the officer, only for Taylor to assault them as well.
Taylor was convicted of resisting and assaulting a police officer, threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear, and criminal damage after damaging a cell inside a police car. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation for the damage.
Sergeant Rhian Hughes condemned Taylor’s actions, saying: “Taylor’s actions against the officer, who was only carrying out her duties, were unacceptable. Assaults against emergency workers will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly.”
