Flint Volunteer Coastguard Rescue Team and the RNLI Flint lifeboat were called into action in the early hours of this morning following reports of a fishing boat stuck on a sandbank near Flint Point.

Flint lifeboat was launched from Connah’s Quay slipway at 3.45am on Wednesday morning and proceeded to the vessel which had one person onboard.

Progress was slowed by low water and an ebbing tide with the crew having to drag the boat through the water at times.

The RNLI crew reached the fishing boat at 4.45am with the occupant who was safe and well transferred to the lifeboat.

With less water in the river at Connah’s Quay the return was even more difficult than the outward journey, the lifeboat arrived back at the Connah’s Quay slipway at 6am.

Coastguard officers say the person on the fishing boat was well equipped and had all the correct safety equipment.

Alan Forrester, volunteer lifeboat operations manager said:

“The volunteer crew were fantastic, this was a difficult rescue due to the state of the tide, the tool track vehicle we have at Connahs Quay really was worth its weight in gold launching at low water.”
