Officers from Ellesmere Port CID are appealing for witnesses to come forward following reports of an altercation on the M53.

At approximately 3.45am on Sunday 11 November officers were called to reports of an altercation on the northbound carriageway of the M53 in Ellesmere Port.

The incident, which took place between junctions 7 and 8, is alleged to have involved around six men who were reportedly arguing on the main carriageway.

Following the altercation the men are believed to have fled the scene in a car, possibly a Volkswagen Passat, which travelled towards Wallasey.

Officers swiftly attended the scene and conducted a thorough search of the local road network but were unable to find any trace of the men or the vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Robin Grantham said: “Enquiries in relation to this incident are in the early stages and we are currently trying to establish exactly what has taken place.

“The M53 is a busy road and I believe there would have been a number of people in the area at the time of the incident who may hold vital information.

“As part of my enquiries I’m keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the incident and witnessed anything suspicious.

“I’d also like to hear from anyone with dashcam footage of the M53 between junctions 7 and 1 between 3.30am and 4.30am today, Sunday 11 November.”
