CARL SARGEANT AM STEPS UP FLINTSHIRE WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN

A POLITICIAN’S campaign to make Flintshire a world leader in ending domestic violence has been stepped up.

Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant wrote to every Welsh local authority to ask them to become corporate supporters of the international White Ribbon campaign, with the aim of making Wales the first country in the UK to fully support the drive.

More than half of Welsh councils have so far responded positively, pledging to become corporate supporters or to look into the matter further, and Mr Sargeant has extended his request to top Flintshire businesses, including Airbus and UPM Shotton.

He said:

“I have written to more than 20 Flintshire businesses this week to ask them to also consider becoming corporate supporters. We have had such an excellent and encouraging response from councils and I would like to build on that.

“I was also contacted directly by the White Ribbon campaign, who are delighted with the work we are doing in Flintshire and say they have been inundated with enquiries.

“I hope business owners will be as passionate about this cause as I am and will continue to help me make sure Wales is a trailblazer in the fight against violence against women and domestic abuse.”
