Broughton: Cathay Group orders additional 32 Airbus A320neo jets

There’s good news for Broughton’s wing makers, Hong Kong’s Cathay Group has announced is buying an additional 32 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, doubling its total orders for the A320 to 64.
This substantial investment is part of Cathay Group’s ongoing commitment to fleet expansion and modernisation.
Thirteen of these state-of-the-art aircraft have already been delivered to the airline group.
The additional 32 aircraft, comprising both the A321neo and A320neo, will join the fleets of Cathay Pacific and HK Express, primarily serving destinations in the Chinese Mainland and other parts of Asia.
This expansion will bolster Cathay Group’s presence in the region, offering enhanced services to passengers and contributing to the group’s sustainability initiatives.
Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, expressed pride in Airbus being part of Cathay Group’s recovery and growth plan. He highlighted the A320neo family’s efficiency and passenger comfort differentiation, which will enable Cathay Group to expand its services across Asia. The aircraft’s significant reduction in fuel consumption will also contribute immediately to the Cathay Group’s sustainability goals.
The A320neo Family, incorporating the latest technologies including new generation engines, Sharklets, and advanced aerodynamics, delivers at least a 20 percent reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions. This feature aligns with global efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of aviation, making the A320neo Family a popular choice among airlines. With over 9,700 orders from more than 130 customers worldwide, the A320neo Family stands as the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft.
