Shotton woman arrested after allegedly revealing names of sex abuse victims on Facebook

A 55 year old woman from Shotton has been arrested on suspicion of breaching sex abuse victim’s anonymity on social media.

The arrest follows the sentencing of 52 year old Merfyn Jones for historical sexual offences at Mold Crown Court yesterday, Tuesday 20th January 20, North Wales Police were notified that details of victims in the case had been disclosed on a Facebook page.

The woman has been named by the Daily Post as Anne Jones the wife of jailed Merfyn Jones.

DI Kelly Isaacs of the Amethyst Team at North Wales Police said:

“As a result of this information immediate action was taken and a 55 year old Shotton woman was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of breaching a victim’s anonymity under the Sexual Offences Act. Following interview she was bailed so we can consult further with the CPS.

“We have now taken steps to have the particular Facebook page with reference to victims in this case removed”

Merfyn Jones, 52, of Rowden Street in Shotton, was convicted of six charges of rape, one charge of attempted rape and six charges of indecent assault. he was jailed yesterday for 17 years and placed on the sex offender register for the rest of his life.
