Stunning victory in Norway sees the Nomads progress to next qualifying round of the Europa League

“Were off for a hell of a night out in Norway, guaranteed sore heads in morning” said Nomads assistant manager Jay Catton on twitter after his side’s stunning 1-0 victory against Stabæk in Norway on Thursday night.

The win seals a place in the next qualifying round of the Europa League with a match against Serbia’s Vojvodina

The Deeside clubs official twitter account summed up the feeling in the camp after the history making victory against the Norwegian top flight side “The Fredrikstadion has tonight seen the best game and best Nomads performance ever”

Held to a goalless draw in the first leg in Rhyl, Manager Andy Morrison called on his players to show the steely resolve which got them into the competition in the first place.

And they did, Nomads winner came in the 15th minute of the first half, keeper John Danby sent the ball upfield which was flicked onto to midfielder Callum Morris who passed the ball into the net from around 7 yards out in a busy area.

Nomads continued to defend resiliently, and were not afraid to come out and mount attacks, however it was the Norwegian side where starting to find some rhythm with the attempts on target tally gently rising.

Stabæk’s took a hammer blow when Kamal Issah was dismissed with a straight red on 51 minutes after things got heated on the pitch.

The Nomads’ John Disney was later sent off despite that fact he had already been substituted off.

In the end Callum Morris’ first-half winner was enough to seal a famous victory in the club’s first European campaign.

The second qualifying round first leg will take place on 14 July, with the second leg to follow a week late.
