Police appeal for witnesses following a fatal collision on Sealand Road today

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on Sealand Road earlier today.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision, involving a Renault Megane and a heavy goods vehicle just before 12pm.

North Wales Police Sargeant Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit said:

“Sadly the male driver of the Renault Megane was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger was airlifted to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.”

“We are advising motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes, as the road is likely to remain closed for several hours.”

He added: “I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been travelling along the road at the time and who witnessed the collision.”

Police Family Liaison officers are with the family and the coroner has been informed.

The Welsh Ambulance service say they were called at “approximately 12pm this afternoon to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry on Sealand Road, Sealand.

Two Wales Air Ambulances, two paramedics in rapid response vehicles and a crew in an emergency ambulance” were sent to the scene.

Sealand Road is expected to be closed until at least 6.30pm tonight.

Anyone who witnessed collision is asked to call the Roads Policing Unit on 101quoting reference W014858.

A spokesperson for Flintshire County Council has said; “The A548 Sealand Road, between its junctions with the Sealand Road roundabout (A494T) and Seahill Road traffic lights (Saughall), has been closed following a road traffic collision.”
