Nik Mesney from NCM Media has been shortlisted for the Welsh Premier League “Photo of the Year” competition.

Nik was asked to submit a number of his photo’s along with all the other photographers who follow and work with WPL sides.

One of Nik’s photos was selected for the final shortlist of five, the winner will be selected at the  Welsh Premier League end of season awards in Aberystwyth on Saturday, June 6th.

The photo which made the shortlist of five was taken during The Nomads’ ill-fated game against Bangor City, the floodlights at Deeside Stadium failed resulting in the match being abandoned.

The shot captures a number of The Nomads’ players waiting around in the hope that the floodlights would come back on, and is lit only by emergency lighting, creating a very atmospheric shot in front of the watching crowd.

Nik who has been covering WPL games for over three seasons said:

“I’m thrilled to have been shortlisted for the final five photos, as there are a number of great photographers who cover the league, and I think I just got lucky with this shot – nobody was expecting the lights to fail, but I remember thinking as soon as it happened ‘this will make for some great photos’, so I spent about 15 minutes just continually taking photos while the staff were trying to get the floodlights back on. Never did I think it would end up being up for an award!”

As well as sporting photography, NCM Media undertake wedding, family and modelling photography – you can find out more by following on Twitter – @ncmmedia, or liking the Facebook page at facebook.com/NCMMedia
