On the last day of term staff and students at Flint High School took part in a Santa Dash and Christmas Jumper Day to raise money for a charity close to their hearts, Giddo’s Gift, which was set up in memory of Jordan Giddins, a former student at the school.

The events marked the launch of a year of activities planned by the school to help raise funds for the charity, which the school council nominated as the school’s Charity of the Year.

Over four hundred pounds was raised on the day, with more money still coming in.

All year groups took part in the Santa Dash in which students ran or walked around the school buildings for forty minutes, clocking up a minimum distance of two miles.

Jim Connelly, headteacher, and Clare Millington, deputy headteacher, are also going to great lengths to support the charity.

They are currently training hard in preparation for the Rock ‘N’ Roll Liverpool Marathon in May.

Both have previously run marathons but, as Mrs Millington explains, this time it will be a particularly poignant occasion for her, “I taught Jordan for a number of years here at Flint High and we were all completely devastated when he lost his battle with Ewings Sarcoma after such a brave fight against the disease.

“I know the family well and we all want to raise as much money as we can in support of them and the charity which does such great work in helping other young people suffering from the disease.”

Giddo’s Gift was set up by Jordan’s family to provide teenagers and young adults suffering from cancer with  grants and gifts.

The charity provides financial help through the provision of grants to Sarcoma UK Research and Histiocytosis UK for research into these diseases to advance treatment for future patients. The grants are funded by fundraising events organised by the trustees.
