The Our Dee Estuary project is inviting local communities to a special event celebrating three years of conservation work across the Dee Estuary.

The free, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday 8 March 2025 at Hoole Community Centre, Chester, from 11 am to 4 pm.

Led by Cheshire Wildlife Trust on behalf of the Tidal Dee Catchment Partnership and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Our Dee Estuary project brings together organisations dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Dee Estuary’s natural heritage.

It aims to inspire coastal communities across the Wirral, Flintshire, and Denbighshire to engage with their local environment and become active in its conservation.

The celebration event will include:

  • Children’s entertainment such as performers and face painters
  • Welsh language taster sessions
  • Exhibits from project partner organisations
  • A screening room featuring Our Dee Estuary films and digital projects
  • Free refreshments

A spokesperson for the project said: “We’re excited to bring the community together to celebrate all the work achieved by our staff and volunteers. We hope many people will join us for this special event.”

About Our Dee Estuary

Our Dee Estuary is a cross-border partnership project working to safeguard the estuary’s wildlife while engaging local communities. The initiative, made possible by National Lottery players, seeks to build a new community of stewardship across the region, ensuring long-term conservation of the area’s natural heritage.

About the Tidal Dee Catchment Partnership

Formed in response to Defra’s 2013 call for local collaboration on water environment improvements, the Tidal Dee Catchment Partnership brings together stakeholders to promote sustainable management of the Dee Estuary. The partnership focuses on:

  • Delivering long-term environmental improvements through local collaboration
  • Supporting biodiversity and flood risk management
  • Encouraging sustainable use and public access to nature

The event is open to all, and attendees can drop in at any time throughout the day.

Hoole Community Centre is located at Westminster Road, Chester, CH2 3AP.
