There are long delays on the M56 in Cheshire following a lorry fire on Wednesday evening.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on the eastbound side of the M56 near Frodsham at around 7.40pm on Wednesday.

The incident led to the closure of the motorway for several hours, creating substantial traffic delays.

As the fire was brought under control, the emergency services began gradual efforts to reopen the motorway.

However, one lane on the eastbound side remains closed this morning for emergency resurfacing work.

Traffic sensors show queuing traffic back past the M53 interchange with delays quoted at around 50 minutes.
A traffic report for the ares states: “One lane closed and queueing traffic due to emergency resurfacing repairs on M56 Eastbound from J14 A5117 (Chester Services / Helsby) to J12 A557 (Runcorn). Lane one (of three) is closed. Following the Lorry fire on Wednesday evening.”
