A second round of industrial action has been called by rail workers union the RMT as part of an ongoing dispute cause by the sacking of two conductors over sickness levels.

The strike, set to take place from from 12.01am on Thursday, October 23 until 11.59pm the following day, follows previous action which took place on 11th October.

Arriva Trains Wales (ATW)  said they were ‘disappointed’ with the RMT’s decision despite an agreement for a meeting with ACAS, and said via their website;

‘where we were hoping to discuss and resolve this issue, the RMT have decided to issue their notice for industrial action prior to these talks taking place. Plans in place to minimise the disruption that any industrial action may have on our customers in the North Wales area. During the last period of RMT action, over 90% of Arriva Trains Wales  (ATW) services in the areas impacted operated according to the advertised timetable’

The RMT said;

‘The Executive Committee had the opportunity to consider this matter and believe that in order to achieve justice for our two disgracefully dismissed members, further industrial action is necessary to force management to see sense and reinstate the two sacked conductors – the RMT has taken the decision to call on all our ATW Conductor members at Holyhead, Chester and Llandudno Junction Depots to take the following strike action’

During the last period of RMT action, over 90% of Arriva Trains Wales services in the areas impacted operated according to the advertised timetable.

ATW said;

‘in the period leading up to the new proposed dates for RMT action, Arriva Trains Wales will be putting together contingency plans focussed on minimising disruption to customers.’

There will be changes to some Arriva Trains Wales timetabled services will affect the following routes

  • Wrexham to Bidston
