Wrexham Glyndwr University Offering Free Courses For Jobseekers
Jobseekers and employees at risk of redundancy are invited to join a free course to help sharpen their online skills.
Wrexham Glyndwr University is holding a series of employability and skills sessions in the region over the coming months.
E-Literacy for the Workplace, which started last week, will run on Thursdays between 10am and 12pm at Llay Community Resource Centre until February 14. The course will also run in Acton from February 28.
The University’s widening access coordinator, Sarah-Lou Gaffney, says the programme is aimed at enhancing ability and confidence, with numeracy and IT training and advice about careers.
“We are well-known as a university that opens up channels to academia and education for people of all backgrounds, and that message will be reinforced during this course,” said Sarah.
“As well as being on hand to help people improve their e-literacy and learning skills, these seminars will also help them build up a portfolio of work to take to potential employers and learn about team work and presentation.”
She added: “There are no academic entry requirements and we will try to be flexible to make the courses as accessible as possible.”
The programme follows a series of free lectures, workshops and interactive information sessions held by the University in October, giving a flavour of the wide variety of degrees and qualifications on offer at the north east Wales institution.
Sarah and the team also visited community centres, libraries and public spaces on the Wrexham Learning Bus earlier last summer, as part of the popular Festival of Learning.
She said: “Last year was successful for the University – including a 5% rise in our student satisfaction scores in the National Student Survey – so we have a lot to shout about.
“Most importantly, we want to give prospective students and those who might not usually have access to higher education and training the opportunity to sit down with us and make use of our expertise and support.”
Wrexham Glyndwr University is to hold a postgraduate open evening on Wednesday February 1 from 4.30pm until 6.30pm, aimed at prospective Master’s students and industry bosses.
