Shotton’s colourful postbox topper set on fire by vandals

In an act of mindless vandalism, a decorative postbox topper in Shotton has been set on fire.

The colourful postbox topper, with a seaside theme, was crafted by the ladies of the Town Angels and Steel Magnolias WI.

The topper has been placed on of the post box near the old post office on on King Edward Street. It was one of several in have been cropping up in the local area.

People in the community invest significant time and effort creating these toppers without any financial reward.

The handmade decorations enliven the community and instil a sense of pride in the area.

Damaging them is not only a criminal act, but it also undermines the sense of community.

In an update on the North Wales Community Alert Website, PCSO Thomas Maddocks said: “A postbox topper has been lit on fire at some point on King Edward Street in Shotton, by the old post office.”

“If you know anything about the damage, then please report whatever you know. You can report this via Crimestoppers anonymously or by calling 101.”

“People spend a lot of time and effort making the toppers and they don’t get any money for it. It brightens up our communities. Damaging them is not only a crime, it spoils the community.”
