Opportunity knocks for engineering expertise at Tata Steel in Shotton

Tata Steel in Shotton has now selected the lucky few apprentices who will be joining the company in September.

Over one hundred applied and from those, four new Engineering Apprentices and three new Manufacturing Apprentices have been taken for the 2016 Apprentice Intake.

Bill Duckworth, Site Manager at Shotton comments:

“It is vital that we keep bringing in new talent to Shotton. We have a well-established high quality training programme, which allows us to develop future generations of engineers to see this plant into the future.”

Sam Baker, who is already an Apprentice in his third year at Tata Steel, has been impressed with the programme offered by Tata Steel in Shotton.

“I’m really enjoying my time as an Apprentice at Shotton. I have had the opportunity to get some real hands on experience, at the same time as studying.

The Engineering team at Shotton have helped develop my engineering skills and supported me in all aspects of my Apprenticeship and I know I can approach anyone for help.

I see a bright future for myself at Shotton works, with future opportunities in training, both academically and practically.”

As well as the apprenticeship opportunities, Tata Steel are currently looking for people to join the Engineering team at Shotton, in a number of Mechanical and Electrical Craft positions.

Matthew Roberts, Works Engineer, comments:

“Our Engineering Department is a multi-disciplined and highly skilled team, which has achieved world class results for the efficiency of the production lines at Shotton. These positions contribute to ensuring that this level of performance is maintained and improved.”

Steel has been successfully processed on the Tata Steel site at Shotton in North Wales for more than 120 years.

The profitable and cash generative plant produces a wide range of world-class galvanised and pre-finished (painted) steel products, which supplies the construction, domestic appliance and manufactured goods markets for customers in the UK and throughout Europe.
