New campaign aims to highlight ‘truth about carrying a knife’ as reports in Wales increase

Young people across Wales are the target of a new campaign to highlight the truth about knife carrying and to encourage reporting of crime 100 per cent anonymously.
As reports given to Crimestoppers about knife crime in Wales have increased by 20% in the last six months, the youth service of the charity, Fearless, have launched a campaign this to highlight the facts about knife crime.
Two facts are that carrying a knife increases your chances of being hurt and spending five years in prison, even if it isn’t used.
In a bid to reduce knife crime in the country, young people and the wider community are being informed about knife crime and are encouraged to anonymously report people who carry knives to the charity.
Hayley Fry, Wales National Manager for the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Asking young people in Wales to speak up about crime anonymously and without fear of retribution is at the heart of Fearless.
“For this campaign, we particularly want to reach out to young people to challenge common myths around carrying knives, as well as encourage them to report anyone they’re concerned about who may be carrying one.
“We’re also urging adults across Wales who may know someone carrying a knife to make ‘a hard call’ and report what they know anonymously.
“Our charity has always kept its promise of anonymity to everyone who contacts us. Young people can share information about crime 100% anonymously at Fearless.org. Adults can also give information by calling our UK Contact Centre on 0800 555 111 at any time or via Crimestoppers-uk.org.
“Our charity receives information about crime anonymously and ensures that what we’re told is passed on.
“We’re proud of our independence from the police and our commitment to protecting the anonymity of everyone who contacts us.”
Fearless gives young people an option of staying 100% anonymous when speaking up about crime. Information can be given via Fearless.org or by calling 0800 555 111 at any time or via Crimestoppers-uk.org. The charity is independent of the police.
