Mountain rescue called into action after falcon spooks pet parrot on a Snowdonia mountain

As the summer holidays kicked off, an unusual mountain rescue operation was set into motion in North Wales on Monday.
A woman and her pet parrot from Derbyshire found themselves stranded high on the cliffs of Glyder Fawr, Snowdonia leading to an unexpected turn of events for the local mountain rescue team.
The woman was part of a group of parrot owners who were enjoying the outdoors, allowing their birds to fly freely in Cwm Idwal.
The peaceful day out took a dramatic turn when a peregrine falcon attacked the group of parrots, causing one bird to fly off in fear.
Tracking the pet through a device, the owner climbed the upper cliffs of Glyder Fawr to retrieve it.
In a surprise twist, the bird decided to fly back unaided, leaving its owner and her second parrot, Jeckyll stranded on the mountainside.
The unusual circumstances triggered a “barrage of parrot jokes” from Coastguard officers and mountain rescue volunteers, a spokesperson for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation
Despite the banter, a hill party was swiftly dispatched to the base of the cliffs.
A team member successfully ascended to her location to ensure her safety.
“On arrival at the casualty, Jeckyll, the second parrot, perched on her owners’ rucksack, greeted our team member with a ‘Hello’!” The spokesperson said.
With all parties safely secured, the team member, the woman, and her parrot were lowered to safe ground.
The mountain rescue team then guided the woman and her unusually adventurous pet down the rest of the mountain.
The successful operation marked an unconventional yet memorable rescue mission, demonstrating the readiness of our mountain rescue teams to handle any situation – even when feathered friends are involved.
