Flood Alert issued for Dee Estuary amid high tides and heavy rain

A flood alert has been issued for coastal areas along the North Wales coast, stretching from the Dee Estuary to the eastern shores of Anglesey, as high tides and severe weather combine to increase the risk of flooding.
Warnings for wind and rain have come into effect across different parts of the UK as Storm Ashley, the first named storm of the season hits.
Although weather warnings are in place for parts of North Wales, no specific Met Office warnings have been issued for Flintshire.
However, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) issued a flood alert early on Sunday morning, warning that the combination of high tides and adverse weather conditions poses a potential threat to beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths, and low-lying roads.
The alert covers numerous locations across North Wales, including Hawarden Embankment along the River Dee. Flint, Ffynnongroyw, and Greenfield Business Park to Bagillt have also been specifically mentioned as at risk.
The warning is expected to remain in place through to the early hours of Monday morning.
Residents are urged to stay cautious and avoid these areas, especially during high tides, as the risk of flooding is heightened.
Coastal promenades, roads, and footpaths may become dangerous, and there is a chance of flooding in low-lying areas near the estuary.
“We are closely monitoring the situation,” said NRW in a statement, urging the public to take precautions and stay informed of the latest updates.
Flintshire was hit with widespread flooding last Wednesday following heavy rainfall.
A number of roads were closed, homes were flooded, and residents in some properties had to be evacuated.
Sandycroft was once again one of the worst-hit areas.
Residents in these areas are encouraged to follow safety guidelines, avoid non-essential travel near the coast, and stay tuned to flood alerts by contacting Floodline on 0345 988 1188, using quick dial code 501036 for North Wales updates.
NRW will continue to monitor conditions and provide further updates if the situation escalates.
