From today Flintshire residents can renew their subscriptions for the Council’s garden waste collection service, which starts again on 1 March 2023.

The Council is once again encouraging residents to sign up early to “take advantage” of the full collection service for the season and the “preferential subscription rate” of £32 per bin, which is available before February 28, 2023.

After March 1, 2023, the standard rate will be £35 if not paid online.

Last year, the council issued a new type of sticker, which contains an RFID (radio frequency identification) tag, to all households who subscribe to the collection service. ‌

The electronic stickers work in a similar way to shop security tags or stickers and are to be attached to the brown bin and registered to each property. ‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The RFID sticker is intended to be automatically scanned by a chip reader on the bin lift at the back of the bin wagon to confirm that a subscription is in place and make it easier for the crews to identify that the bin is eligible for collection. ‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Residents who renew their subscription this year will not receive a new sticker, as the one already on their bin will work again.

If you had a sticker last year (2022) but this has been removed from your bin then tell the council on the application form for this years’ service.

For those who did not subscribe to the service in 2022, a sticker pack will be sent once they have subscribed.

Councillor Dave Hughes, Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Regional Transport Strategy, said, “We encourage residents to sign up early for this very popular service so that they benefit from the full collection service and reduced rate.” He added, “We want to make sure that we encourage more people to recycle their garden waste.”

“Residents are reminded that only grass cuttings, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs, bark, and small branches can be placed in the brown bin. Bins cannot be used for fruit and vegetable peelings, food waste, cardboard, paper, soil, rubble, pet litter, animal bedding, or animal waste.”

All garden waste collected is composted at the Council-operated facility in Greenfield.

The compost produced can then be collected free of charge by Flintshire residents from one of five Household Recycling Centres.

Subscriptions can be made at any time by visiting the Council’s website, calling 01352 701234, or visiting a local Connects Centre.
