Flintshire County Council has once again shown its support to the White Ribbon Campaign for an end to violence against women.

White Ribbon Day is marked around the world and is the largest global initiative to end male violence against women by calling on men to take action and make a difference.

Flintshire County Council members and officers have been wearing white ribbons to promote awareness of the campaign and gathered at County Hall, Mold, to raise a flag of support. To wear a white ribbon is to pledge never to commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women.

Cabinet member for Planning, Public Protection and Public Health, Councillor Chris Bithell, said: “November 25 is officially recognised by the United Nations as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The White Ribbon is a symbol of hope for a world where women and girls can live free from the fear of violence. Wearing a white ribbon is a great way to show support for this campaign.

“Flintshire has been a keen supporter of this cause for many years and has been accredited by the White Ribbon Campaign for the work we do. It is important that, as an organisation, we help to raise awareness by demonstrating our commitment and support activities around this important time of year.”
