Shotton Town Council is to co-opt (pick their own) new member of the community to fill the vacancy for the office of councillor Higher Shotton ward.

There seems little desire within the community for an election for this vacancy, County Hall did not receive the minimum number of 10 electors expressing their wish for an election to take place, this allows the council to co-opt a member, basically choose an appropriate person from those who express an interest.

They must also fulfil the following criteria and qualifications to be considered for the vacancy.

Anybody interested must be a British, Commonwealth, Irish or European citizen and be 18 years of age or over; and must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Registered as a local government elector for the area named above; or
  • During the whole of the last 12 months occupied as owner or tenant, land or other premises in the community named above; or
  • Your principal or only place of work during the last 12 months has been in the community named above; or
  • You have during the whole of the last 12 months resided in the Community or within 4.8 kilometres of it.

For more information and to register an interest in being co opted to the vacant seat contact the Clerk to the Council Susan Cartwright 01244 822119
