Economics students got the chance to talk business during a question and answer session with a Welsh Government minister.

Ken Skates visited Coleg Cambria on Friday (December 9) and was quizzed about his wide-ranging role as Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure.

The Clwyd South AM said: “We had an extremely interesting and lively discussion and it was great to chat with such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic group of young people.

“The students are currently looking at how governments contribute to the economy through policies and major projects, so we talked about how – as a pro-business government – the Welsh Labour Government works to help firms of all sizes prosper and grow and the various ways we do so.

“We also discussed the challenges facing our businesses and economy by the Brexit vote and how the Welsh Government plans to improve our road and rail network to encourage further inward investment.”

Student Megan Davies, 17, from Connah’s Quay, said: “It was a really useful and informative session. It was so good to hear real life examples of how the theory we had learnt was put into practice.”

Eighteen-year-old Amy Hollows, from Mold, added: “It was a privilege to have the Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure in our lesson. It was very helpful and will help me to develop my ideas when I’m writing essays in the future.”
