Police are asking motorists to avoid the M56 eastbound from junction 14 because of an accident involving a lorry and a car.

Congestion is backed up to J15 M53, on A5117 to the B5132 Cryers Lane junction and to J16 A5117.

The Highways Agency say there are currently delays of 50 minutes against free flowing traffic.

Two lanes of the M56 are closed and there is slow moving traffic on the westbound side as people slow to look at the accident.

Cheshire Fire Brigade who have been at the scene have said:

“Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a car. The crew assisted paramedics with two casualties. The hard shoulder and lane one remained open during the incident.”

TOM TOM traffic app is currently quoting around 1.5hrs delay to travel times
