A Connah’s Quay resident had a shock when discovering 40 pet mice abandoned in a box at Cheshire Oaks.

The discovery was made when friends were out walking last Friday (7 December), and stumbled across a brown cardboard box – with child-like drawings on the side – filled with dozens of live mice.

RSPCA Cymru collected the mice, after they were transferred by the member of the public back to their home in Connah’s Quay.

The mice have now been divided between RSPCA centres at Bryn-Y-Maen, Stapeley Grange and Gonsal Farm for rehabilitation and care.

An appeal for information has been launched by the animal welfare charity, in the hope of deciphering why so many mice were left abandoned in a cardboard box at Cheshire Oaks.

RSPCA inspector Tim Jones said: “We’re grateful to the North Wales resident who found these mice, and wanted to help them.

“It’s shocking to think anyone deeming it acceptable to just dump 40 pet mice like this at Cheshire Oaks. It is a wholly inappropriate and irresponsible way to treat animals.

“All of the mice had been dumped in one large brown cardboard box. Anyone who knows anything about this incident is urged to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
