CHRIS Budrys hit a 51st-minute winner as the Wingmakers overcame their away hoodoo at Bangor City to come away with a 1-0 win and forge six points clear at the top of the table overnight.

The Scot was left with a simple chance after Steve Abbott showed a turn of foot to outpace Michael Johnston and squared an inch-perfect pass in front of goal.

Citizens’ keeper Lee Idzi did well to make a diving save to the left to keep out Ian Kearney’s 25-yard free-kick in the first half, but Airbus rode their luck on a couple of occasions, as Declan Walker smashed a 30-yard effort against the post early in the game.

A curling free kick from Sion Edwards was met by Les Davies six yards out but Airbus defender Lewis Short somehow managed to spoon his shot to safety over the bar.

Keeper James Coates beat away a 12-yard effort from Jamie Petrie as Bangor threaned again and the defence blocked a Sion Edwards shot from the follow-up.

Airbus went close again when Ryan Wade went on a mazy run just before the break and beat two defenders, but his shot from a tight angle was beaten away by Idzi.

After the goal, City were awarded a penalty on the hour when Budrys handled Michael Johnston’s long ball into the box, but Les Davies hit a poor spot kick straight at Coates and Walker smashed the rebound high over the bar.

A Lee Owens ball into the box was well held-up by Abbott for substitute Richie Partridge, whose curling shot was parried away by Idzi.

And Walker was unable to take advantage of a free-kick deep into stoppage time as the visitors were able to contain Bangor with some comfort in the second half.
