Two schools in Flintshire will remain closed on Monday, 6 January, due to the hazardous snow and icy conditions that affected the region over the weekend.

According to Flintshire County Council’s website, Ysgol Maes Hyfryd, a special education school in Flint, will remain closed.

Bryn Tirion (Plas Derwen, a Pupil Referral Unit) in Shotton will also be closed.

Both schools have cited adverse weather as the reason for the closures, with safety concerns prompting the decision to keep students at home.

Flintshire, like many areas, has been dealing with the aftermath of heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures over the weekend.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for snow and ice in the region, in effect until midday on Monday, creating hazardous conditions on untreated roads and pavements.

Parents and guardians are advised to check the Flintshire County Council website or individual school communication channels for further updates.
