Bahraini flag carrier Gulf Air is to increase its fleet of Airbus jets after signing a deal to purchase 29 next engine option (neo) A320 and A321 narrowbody aircraft.

The order scheduled for delivery from June 2018 includes 17 A321neo and 12 A320neo aircraft, the order is worth an estimated $3.4 billion at list price.

Gulf Air currently operates 28 Airbus, commenting on the deal, Gulf Air Acting CEO Mr. Maher Salman Al Musallam, said,

“I am delighted that we will enhance and simplify our fleet structure building on Airbus aircraft. This restructured order meets Gulf Air’s future fleet requirement and our network expansion plans. As a result, I now look forward to furthering Gulf Air’s fleet modernization process while supporting our network and overall passenger experience enhancement strategies.”

Airbus said earlier in the month it had exceeded its targets for 2015, the plane maker achieved a new record of 635 aircraft deliveries for 85 customers of which 10 are new.

By the end of 2015 Airbus had £688.8 billion worth of planes on its order books.
