UK supermarket giant Tesco is recalling its Arrabbiata Sauce after it was discovered that the product may contain milk, which is not mentioned on the label.

The oversight means that the product poses a potential health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or its constituents.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a statement advising consumers not to eat the product and to return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. No receipt is required to receive the refund.

The Tesco Arrabbiata Sauce comes in a 350-gram pack size and has a use-by date of 02 March 2023.

The product’s recall notice specifies the allergen as milk, and Tesco has advised allergy support organisations to inform their members about the recall.

The company also issued a recall notice to customers, providing details about why the product is being recalled and what to do if they have purchased the product.

The FSA warns that sometimes a food product must be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk.

When there is a food allergy risk, the agency issues an Allergy Alert.

In the case of the Tesco Arrabbiata Sauce, the FSA has issued an alert to inform the public of the potential allergen risk.

Tesco has apologised for the oversight and urged customers who have purchased the product to contact its customer services team on 0800 505 555 for further assistance.
