Police praise court outcome after man jailed for domestic abuse

A 39-year-old man, formerly of Ewloe, has been sentenced to 32 weeks in prison for domestic abuse offences against his partner.
Ben Maddocks, currently of no fixed abode, appeared before Wrexham Magistrates Court on Monday, 28 October, where he admitted to a public order offence.
In the early hours of Friday, 25 October, North Wales Police were called after the victim reported that Maddocks had been abusive and had assaulted her during a taxi journey.
She also reported that he had taken her phone and tablet and restricted her access by changing her phone’s PIN.
Officers attended the address, and following the victim’s disclosure and a history of domestic violence, Maddocks was arrested.
This incident also breached a suspended sentence order issued in June 2024, leading to a further charge of using threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence.
District Inspector Iwan Jones praised the commitment of police and partner agencies in handling the case. “We are resolute in our determination to pursue individuals who insist on preying on the most vulnerable in our society,” he said.
“This court result is a testament to the hard work of officers and our partner agencies in our continued efforts to protect and support victims of domestic violence and violence against women and girls.”
Inspector Jones encouraged victims of domestic violence to speak up, promising thorough investigations and support.
“It isn’t easy to speak up following domestic incidents,” he said, “but I would reassure anyone that we will always do our utmost to fully investigate any report and bring offenders to justice.”
