A North Wales Member of the Senedd (MS) has praised the creativity of schoolchildren who took part in his annual Christmas card competition.

Llyr Gruffydd, Plaid Cymru’s North Wales Senedd Member, commended pupils from Flintshire and beyond for their festive designs, which captured the Christmas spirit with flair and imagination.

Among this year’s winners were pupils from Mountain Lane Primary School in Buckley, Golftyn CP in Connah’s Quay, and Ysgol Ty Ffynnon in Shotton. The competition also recognised a talented pupil from Ysgol Melyd in Prestatyn.

Mr Gruffydd expressed his admiration for the children’s artistic efforts, noting the difficulty judges faced in selecting the winners. “The standard of the entrants this year was very high and made it difficult for the judges,” he said.

The MS personally visited the winners – Penny from Golftyn, Azalea from Mountain Lane, Esmae from Ty Ffynnon, and Eva from Ysgol Melyd – to congratulate them on their achievements. Each received a small prize as recognition for their work.

“I was very pleased to be able to visit the winners to thank them personally and present them with a small prize,” Mr Gruffydd said. “I’d also like to thank the teachers at all the schools that entered for their efforts and wish them all the best for Christmas and the New Year.”

The competition has become a festive highlight, encouraging young artists to showcase their talents while spreading holiday cheer.

It also reflects Mr Gruffydd’s continued engagement with local schools and his support for fostering creativity among young people in the region.
