New traffic lights on Deeside Industrial Estate Interchange roundabout are causing rush hour ‘mayhem’.

Work has been undertaken to install ‘partial signals’ and improve road markings at the Deeside Park Interchange.

The Welsh government asserts these enhancements will “ease the impact of traffic generated by The Airfields development.”

The road improvements, set for completion this month, aim to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.

However, during Tuesday’s rush hour, reports of ‘gridlock’ at Deeside Industrial Estate emerged.

Bryan tweeted Deeside.com: “Contractors working on the new lights on the Industrial Park have successfully gridlocked the park.”

Several drivers reported waiting over half an hour to leave the industrial park the previous evening.

Traffic appears once again to be gridlocked from the westbound A494 into Wales and onto the A548, leading to the Deeside Industrial Estate Interchange.

There are also long delays for those exiting the industrial estate onto Shotwick Road and the approach back to the interchange.

On Twitter, Bryan voiced his frustration: “Really bad again this morning. Queuing on 494 coming in from Ellesmere Port. Why have they switched the lights on when lane restrictions are still in place? They’re causing mayhem.”

Darren told us the problem lies with the new lights at the interchange, which are “only letting one or two cars through at a time.”

The Welsh Government maintains that significant works on the A494 will “ease the impact of traffic generated by The Airfields development.”

This development will include over 800 houses and an 11-unit ‘District Centre’ with a convenience store and medical practice. A significant new tissue manufacturing site is also anticipated in close proximity.

The road improvements, due for completion this month, are designed to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.

Key works on the A494 involve installing partial signals and improving road markings at the Deeside Park Interchange, in addition to widening and adding partial signals to the Drome Corner Eastbound off-slip, situated at the former Gateway to Wales Hotel site.”
