National spotlight for Bagillt business through Small Business Sunday

A Bagillt-based handmade business has received national recognition after being selected as a weekly winner of Small Business Sunday, the UK-wide initiative founded by retail entrepreneur Theo Paphitis.
That’s Sew Laura UK was chosen last week after its owner, Laura, shared her business story on social media as part of the Small Business Sunday scheme. She was selected as one of six winners announced that week.
Theo Paphitis re-shared the post with his combined audience of more than 800,000 followers across X, Instagram and LinkedIn, giving the Bagillt business increased national exposure.
That’s Sew Laura UK creates handmade hair accessories designed with comfort as a priority. Laura started the business around family life and local markets after struggling to find hair accessories that could be worn all day without pulling or causing damage.
The business has grown steadily since launching, with Laura now designing her own fabrics and supplying customers across the UK.
Small Business Sunday was launched in 2010 to highlight and support independent businesses. More than 4,000 businesses across the UK have been selected since it began, with the scheme marking its 15th anniversary in 2025. Each week, six businesses are chosen after posting about their work using the #SBS hashtag.
Since being named a winner, That’s Sew Laura UK has seen increased interest and a rise in online engagement. As part of the scheme, the business is also featured on the official Small Business Sunday website, which is only open to selected winners.
Laura said: “Winning Small Business Sunday genuinely means so much to me. I built this business slowly around my family and real life, and to have that recognised on a national level is incredibly special. Small businesses like mine are rooted in our communities, and this kind of support gives a huge boost — not just to visibility, but to confidence in what we’re building.”
Theo Paphitis said: “We are thrilled to welcome new #SBS members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK. My vision is that everyone who has ever won an #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club — like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings. The website also gives a valuable profile to the winners chosen, and I wish That’s Sew Laura UK every success.”
Small Business Sunday takes place each week, with businesses invited to post about their work on Sundays between 5pm and 7.30pm using the #SBS hashtag. Winners are announced on Monday evenings.
