Padel club and gym recommended for approval at former Buckley factory

Planning officers are recommending approval for a leisure venue at the former Glen Dimplex site in Buckley.
The scheme would convert around half of the vacant industrial building into a padel tennis club, gym, indoor football facility and small coffee shop.
The other half of the building remains in industrial use.
The site sits on Drury New Road, close to Buckley train station.
Local member Councillor Mike Peers asked for the application to go before committee, seeking assurances the leisure use would not undermine the site’s employment land designation.

Buckley Town Council raised no objection and said the town needed more leisure facilities.
A local business wrote in support, describing it as a good use of a building that had stood empty for a long time.
Planning officers said the proposal would not represent a permanent loss of employment land, since no external changes are proposed to the building and it could revert to industrial use in future.
The site was previously the subject of a proposal for residential development, which was refused and later dismissed at appeal.
Officers said that scheme was fundamentally different, as it would have removed all employment use from the site, unlike the current leisure proposal.
The application will be considered by Flintshire’s planning committee on Wednesday 15 July.
